Dena Haden, artist and co-founder of the coworking facility, Groundwork!, has a new role to play in downtown New Bedford. She has been named CO+ program manager of the recently opened Co-Creative Center at 137 Union St.

Waterfront Area Historic League, project owner and developer of the Co-Creative Center, selected Haden for the position based on her commitment to the center’s mission as reflected by her work experience, education and participation in the arts community.

“We’re excited to welcome Dena to the Co-Creative Center as CO+ program manager. Her outstanding ability to create a sense of community will be felt at 137 Union St. as well as throughout the entire city of New Bedford,” said WHALE executive director Teri Bernert.

“As a local artist, co-founder of Groundwork! and board member of the public mural project, SUPERFLAT New Bedford,” according to a news release, “Dena has engaged the local community as an art organizer and sees public collaborative art as a vital component of its success and sustainability. She has played a significant role in the New Bedford arts community and has provided vision and direction in the strategic growth of initiating public art in and around the city.”

A shared arts workspace and gallery dedicated to collaboration and education, “Dena will play an integral role at weaving all aspects of community building” into the Co-Creative Center, the release continues. The center’s mission is to “establish a footprint for creative enterprise in the historic downtown to connect, support and celebrate artists and cultural entrepreneurship.”
